I appreciate beautiful flowers in our yard all the time: daffodils in the spring, roses in the summer, and sunflowers come early-fall.
But it occurred to me while working in the garden yesterday that I’ve never stopped to appreciate the beautiful blossoms in the vegetable garden — blossoms that will eventually turn into fruits and vegetables for us to enjoy.
They’re all different colors, shapes, and sizes. Presumably this is to attract different insects to pollinate them? It’s been a while since my high school biology and life-sciences days…
Top-to-bottom those are zucchini, watermelon, and green bean blossoms. The beans in particular surprised me. I had no idea they had such delicate, lovely flowers.
Poking around a bit, I found this tiny green-bean, just starting to grow from where one of the blossoms once was.
Nature is truly an amazing thing, isn’t it?
