Resources

These are a few of the sites and resources I’ve found useful in designing and maintaining my various websites:

Webhosting and Domain Registration:

  • Currently, most of my domains are hosted through GoDaddy. But as they get close to expiration, I’m slowly moving things over to Hover.com, as I’m tired of dealing with GoDaddy’s cluttered site.
  • Jaguar PC has been my hosting company for several years and I’ve always been happy with their service.

Images:

  • SXC.hu has lots of free stock photography.
  • iStockPhoto has low-cost stock photography and illustrations.
  • Flickr for hosting my own photos.

WordPress Plugins:

  • CommentLuv displays a link to a commenter’s most recent post on their blog.
  • FlickrRSS gives you an easy interface to display your Flickr photos in a sidebar widget.
  • KB Countdown Widget is a simple countdown ticker for your sidebar widgets.
  • Lightbox 2 is my favorite WP lightbox plugin. It enables a really nice javascript “pop-up” to enlarge photos when a user clicks on a thumbnail in your blog post.
  • LinkWithin cross-links related posts on your blog.
  • Twitter Tools is one of the best ways to integrate your Twitter account into your WP blog.
  • Ultimate Google Analytics is an easy way to integrate Google’s statistics tracker into your site without having to modify your theme templates.
  • Viper’s Video Quicktags is a plugin that enables extra buttons in your WP post toolbar that allow you to easily insert videos from various popular video hosting sites.
  • WordPress.com Stats is another statistics tracker for your website and gives you some additional insight about your site-visitors in addition to Google Analytics.
  • WP-Cumulus is a really cool graphical “tag cloud” for your sidebar.
  • WP-PageNavi gives you a paginated navigation through your blog pots.
