Did anyone catch this episode of NOVA scienceNOW on PBS last night?
I’m a huge animal lover and shows like this fascinate me. The first segment was about a border collie who had memorized over 1,000 stuffed toys and would retrieve them by name. If a new toy was added and a name was called that he didn’t recognize, the dog would deduce that the toy he didn’t recognize must be the one his owner was asking for. Another segment was also one about Alex the African Grey Parrot who had the reasoning skills and vocabulary of a 5-year-old child.
My favorite segment was the one about cephalopods – cuttlefish, octopus, and squids. A month or so ago, I’d run across the video below on YouTube, all about the Mimic Octopus, and ever since I’ve been kinda-sorta obsessed with learning about them …
Anyone else catch this show? I was blown away.
